A Clinical Study on Psychiatric Consultation

Abstract
|
|
|
A clinical study was clone with 155 inpatients referred for psychiatric consultation in Chosun University Hospital during the period from July 1st 1982 to December 31th 1983.
The results were as follows ;
1. The total referral was 1.22% of all inpatients. The department of Dermatology was highest in referral ratio (5.88%).
2. There was no significant difference in the distribution between male and female. Age distribution was heavily concentrated between the ages of 20 to 30years of age.
3. Among the referrals, a majority of referrals came from the department of Internal Medicine(73. 5%).
4. The main psychiatric symptom was somatic complaints in which laboratory studies could not find any organic disorder (36.8%).
5. Patient´s attitude towards psychiatric consultation revealed a positive attitude from 68.4% of the patients, a negativeattitude from 31.6%.
6. Psychiatrist made psychiatric diagnosis in 20%, and depressive neurosis was most common.
7. Among the inpatients recommended for consultation, transfer was more accepted than other recommendations.
8. Among the inpatients transferred from nonpsychiatric departments, the most common patient was neurotic disorders (55.6%).
9. Average hospitalization period from admission to consultation was 4 days and from consultation to discharge was 5 days.
